MANAGER'S VERDICT: BOLTON

18 April 2023

DINO Maamria was satisfied with a point after the Brewers came from behind to draw 1-1 with Bolton Wanderers.

That made it four points from two home games against promotion-chasing sides following the win over Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

The Brewers manager said: “We are very pleased with a point as it was a tough game. It was hard for us to get going again after Saturday but that’s how far we have come as a team and four or five months ago we would have lost that game.

“We weren’t at our best tonight and there were a lot of tired legs out there, but we stayed in the game, didn’t concede a second goal, and had some really good chances of our own as well. Dale Taylor and Charlie Kirk both had chances that were open goals really.

“Both teams had a lot of chances and I think a draw was a fair result. You can see that both teams had tough games on Saturday but, overall, we have to be satisfied with a point.”

Bolton scored through former Brewer Victor Adebojeyo returning to the Pirelli after his move to the visitors in January.

Maamria said: “We know what Victor can do and he was brilliant for us. It was good to see him return and he was great in the six months he worked with me.

“But it’s been a tough run for us and we have picked up some points and the only loss we had was Charlton and we have another big one on Saturday against Derby.

“I would have liked to have banked another win tonight but we didn’t control it enough in their half. It was too open for our liking.”

The Brewers goal was scored by Josh Walker straight after he came on as a second half sub.

Maamria said: “I’m brave and bold. I can’t stand losing and I put a lot of forwards in there to try and win the game . I put Josh on and he scored straight away. That’s his second goal now and he will score many more hopefully.”

Jonny Smith came of in the second half, but Maamria said it was precautionary.

“Jonny gave us 60 minutes but has been struggling with his hamstring. He gave us energy in the first half but we took him off as we don’t want to lose him for three or four games.

“We changed system a couple of times to try and get more control and I would have liked to have won it in the end. I had a feeling we would get a late winner. We didn’t so we take the point.”
