HELM SAYS BREWERS WERE UNLUCKY IN NARROW DEFEAT

29 April 2023

MIDFIELDER Mark Helm thought the Brewers could have easily spoiled the Plymouth promotion party at Home Park today.

Albion lost a close game 1-0 but Helm thought the Brewers could have earned a point at the hardest place to go to in League One.

He said: “They are a good side, but I thought we were unlucky to fall just short today and we certainly had our chances. The lads dug in, were looking strong at the end and I thought we gave a good account of ourselves. They are well drilled; they know their jobs and what they are doing but it was only 1-0 and we could have had a goal.”

Helm says the lads knew it wasn’t going to be easy with more than 16,000 fans expecting a promotion party.

“We just turned up and tried to play our game and tried not to get bogged down in all the promotion stuff. It’s tough coming here (on days like this) but that’s part of football and you have to come to these difficult places looking to get results.

“We made sure we were safe by winning at Lincoln and it could have been a different story today. We played with freedom and I think all the lads enjoyed it.

“After three away games we are looking forward now to being back at the Pirelli for the last two home games and we want to put in two great performances to finish the season.”

Helm praised the 283 Albion fans who made the nearly 500-mile round trip.

“It’s a fair trip but we appreciate all the fans who have come here today and all those who back us all the time and I hope they will turn out in numbers for the last two games at the Pirelli.”
