BREWERS fans are being asked for their support to buy a new wheelchair for Burton Albion Academy’s John Clarke.

John has quadriplegic cerebral palsy and he relies on his electric wheelchair as well as 24/7 care for all aspects of his daily life.

John’s chair broke down leaving him unable to get around and causing him a lot of stress and discomfort.

John was named the EFL Employee of the Year earlier this year for the incredible impact he has made in his role at the club and as an inspiration for people with disabilities.

His friend and fellow member of BAFC Academy Will Clough has started a funding page to help provide John with a new chair.

He said: “John’s really missed out on doing the work he loves at the Academy and all the other things he does in the community.

“John has been assessed for the new chair and the one we are aiming to buy will have a riser which will allow him to move up and down and be eye to eye with people for the first time in his life which is why we are now targeting £15,000.

“We have had a fantastic response so far and we are now over 70 per cent there and all donations big or small would be gratefully received, and then hopefully we can buy the chair and gift it to John.”

Academy Manager Dan Robinson said: “John not only won the EFL Employee of the Year award he plays a huge part in our Academy and the wider football club and we are desperate to get him back again in a suitable chair that allows him to make the massive contribution he does.

“I’m sure Brewers fans will want to join us by helping John and any donations will be greatly appreciated.”

John said: “I want to thank everyone for their incredible support, and I can’t wait to get the new chair and to get back to doing all the things I love and care about at Burton Albion.”
