MAAMRIA SAYS SQUAD IS STILL POSITIVE AHEAD OF WYCOMBE

17 August 2023

DINO Maamria says the squad remains positive ahead of Saturday’s trip to Wycombe with key players Tom Hamer and Jasper Moon possibly returning.

A tricky first few fixtures for the Brewers coupled with a growing injury list has left Albion winless in their first three league games. But with the possibility of players returning from injury this weekend, Maamria hopes his Burton side will begin to pick up results in the coming weeks.

The Brewers manager said: ““We always knew it was going to be difficult for two reasons. When you look at the fixture list then even the most optimistic person would say it’s going to be difficult, then we bring 11 players in and the squad is nearly there but not quite.

”To have the start that we’ve had, heads could easily drop but we’ve kept playing football, kept doing what we do, kept plugging away and believing in what we’re doing.

“If you see our team it does not look like a team losing confidence, we trained this morning and everybody’s bubbling, we sat down with the team and with the staff and broke down why this has happened.

“We’ve got to ride the wave and we’ll come out of the other side no doubt about it.”

With Cole Stockton side-lined for three to four weeks and uncertainty over the extent of Jamal Blackman's injury suffered on Wednesday against Shrewsbury, Maamria is hoping Tom Hamer and Jasper Moon will be back into the squad as early as Saturday.

“Obviously we want our best players on the pitch and we’ve been hampered by one or two injuries.

“Tom and Jasper are touch-and-go for Saturday, Tom failed a fitness test on Tuesday for the Shrewsbury game but we’ll see about Saturday.

“We’ve been missing some of our key players and it’ll be great to have them back.”
