CHAIRMAN'S STATEMENT: DERBY COUNTY

17 August 2023

BURTON Albion Chairman Ben Robinson responds to fans who have complained about Derby County supporters being in the home terraces during Saturday’s fixture.

He said: “I want to apologise to any of our supporters who felt uncomfortable at Saturday’s game due to Derby County fans gaining admission to the home terraces. We take this very seriously and share the fans’ concerns. That’s why we had detailed safety meetings leading up to the fixture and why there was a significant increase in the number of stewards on duty for the game including extra staff from Derby County.

“I know some of our fans have said that there should have been buying restrictions but unfortunately many buyers have a DE postcode because although they support Derby they live in Burton. When purchases are made our staff ask if they are home supporters but clearly that has not stopped some Rams fans purchasing tickets.

“The unique issue we have for this fixture is that there are a lot of football fans who actively support both clubs and who may be supporting Derby on the day but also regularly attend and back the Brewers against other opponents. These fans care about both clubs and are not in the minority of Derby County fans who have taken advantage of Burton addresses to gain access to the ground under false pretences.

“We are holding a number of meetings to look at all aspects of the game with our safety team as we have to prevent a recurrence of this situation when this local derby takes place again.

"The club really appreciates the valued support of our loyal fans and we are really sorry they had to experience this situation at this game."
