FACTS and figures relating to Saturday's home game with Exeter from Tony Bentley.

This Saturday will be the first time that the Brewers have played a Football League game on 2nd September.

You have to go back to 2008 to find the last time that Albion played on this date. It was a Tuesday night trip to Wales in the Blue Square Premier title winning season. A crowd of 4,104 were inside the Racecourse Ground, Wrexham for a game that was decided by Shaun Harrad’s 15th minute goal. Interestingly both goalkeepers in the game would go onto to become goalkeeping coaches for the Brewers in the Football League. Kevin Poole under Gary Rowett, and Gavin Ward under Jimmy Floyd Hasslebaink.

Prior to that Burton hosted Merthyr Tydfil in the Southern Premier League on 2nd September 2000. Dale Anderson scored the only goal of the game for the Brewers in front of 1,097 fans.

It was Saturday 11th February 2023 when the Grecians last visited the Pirelli Stadium. Current Brewers players Jake Caprice and Rakeem Harper both started the match for the visitors, with Jamal Blackman on the bench. A crowd of 3,103 were in attendance as Sam Winnall scored the only goal of the game in the 84th minute, hooking home a 10-yard volley to complete a league double for Albion.

Prior to that you have to go back to Tuesday 19th August 2014 for the previous time Exeter City visited the Pirelli Stadium. A crowd of 2,099 saw Stuart Beavon’s 41st minute goal earn all three points for Gary Rowett’s side, as they made it three wins out of three at the start of the season.

On 1st February 2014 the Grecians earned a point from a 1-1 draw in front of 2,277. Burton defender Ian Sharps put through his own goal in the 56th minute, before Adam McGurk equalised for the Brewers just two minutes later. Former Albion keeper Artur Krysiak was in goal for Exeter that day.

It was high scoring affair when Exeter visited on 23rd February 2013. Michael Symes gave Burton an 11th minute lead. Defender Marcus Holness doubled the lead after 27 minutes, before Jacques Maghoma extended the lead further after 34 minutes. Lee Bell made it 4-0 to Albion in the 60th minute, before Exeter pulled two goals back. Guillem Bouza netted after 70 minutes with Scott Bennett scoring another four minutes later.

The final match of the regular Blue Square Premier 2007/8 season saw the two sides play out a thrilling 4-4 draw here as both sides prepared for the upcoming play offs. 2,881 fans saw Dean Moxey put the Grecians ahead in the 3rd minute. Daryl Clare made it 1-1 six minutes later. The late Adam Stansfield restored Exeter’s lead in the 47th minute. Matt Williams made it 2-2 in the 70th minute, before a quickfire brace from Shaun Harrad made it 4-2 to Albion with goals in the 80th and 83rd minute. At that moment Burton would face Torquay United and Exeter would play Cambridge United. However, 87th and 90th minute goals from George Friend and Richard Logan meant it was all change the following week, with Exeter facing their Devon rivals and Albion facing Cambridge.
