TERRY TAYLOR INJURY BLOW FOR BREWERS

9 February 2023

BREWERS manager Dino Maamria has confirmed that Terry Taylor will be out of action for a number of weeks.

The young midfielder has been a crucial player for the Brewers this season, but the Wales Under-21 captain was stretchered off following an awkward landing at Highbury Stadium last weekend.

“Terry is out for a while,” confirmed Maamria. “We’ll find out more in the next few days how long he’s out for and if he needs an operation or not. The minimum is 4-5 weeks, but it could be much longer.

“Like I’ve said before, he’s been one of the bright sparks in a difficult time for us. For his young age, he’s showing so much maturity and he keeps growing in confidence and getting better each week. It’s a setback for him but I’m sure he’ll come back stronger.”

Taylor’s injury was just about the only downside in an otherwise perfect weekend as the Brewers ran out 3-2 winners away to Fleetwood Town, and in doing so achieved back-to-back wins for just the second time this season.

Maamria is well aware of the poor run of results that followed shortly after the Brewers had beaten Lincoln City and Forest Green Rovers during the turn of the new year and is keen to ensure that this time will be different.

“When I’m awake in the middle of the night, I write notes on my phone. One of them is about addressing game number three, after two wins. It’s something we’re working on with the players to help them prepare psychologically and mentally, and to learn from our experiences.

“What happened last time is on the back of our minds. We can’t just turn up and expect to keep the run going. From my experience, the most I’ve won is six on the bounce, and I know how hard that is. You have got to have the right mentality, the right mindset. You want to make sure that the players and staff aren’t too complacent.”

As the Brewers look to stay level-headed, the injury list might be a factor in team selection against Exeter City on Saturday. Bobby Kamwa has impressed under Maamria this season and he remains a doubt, alongside Sam Lavelle. Like Terry Taylor, Ciaran Gilligan will also be unavailable this weekend.
