FACTS and figures relating to tomorrow's game away at Bristol Rovers from Tony Bentley.

The last time Burton Albion played on 18th February was a memorable Championship game in 2017. Norwich City were the visitors to the Pirelli Stadium as Lasse Vigen Christensen robbed Tim Klose near the corner flag in the 25th minute. He whipped in a low cross which was turned in by Cauley Woodrow to put Albion ahead. The visitors were back on level terms after 52 minutes when a wayward Steven Whittaker shot hit the face of Cameron Jerome and nestled in the corner of Jon McLaughlin’s net. Four minutes later Burton scored what turned out to be the winning goal when Woodrow clipped a ball forward from his own half. Michael Kightly expertly controlled the ball with the outside of his right boot to take the ball away from Russell Martin, before deftly lobbing the ball over John Ruddy from the edge of the area. It was a goal worthy of winning any game and sent the majority of the 5,263 crowd home happy.

On February 18th 2014 the Brewers travelled to Rochdale for a League Two fixture. A crowd of 2,092 saw Zeli Ismail give Burton a 35th minute lead before George Donnelly equalised for the home side in the 67th minute.

This date in 2012 saw another League Two encounter as Rotherham United visited the Pirelli. 3,313 were in attendance as Calvin Zola gave Burton a 40th minute lead. Former Albion striker Shaun Harrad equalised in the 55th minute to earn a share of the points for the Millers.

In 2006 the Brewers travelled to Aldershot Town for a Nationwide Conference encounter. Aaron Webster gave Burton a 4th minute lead, before Jonny Dixon equalised in the 45th minute, in front of 2,248 fans.

It was a Southern Premier Division encounter on February 18th 1995. VS Rugby were the visitors to Eton Park, where a crowd of 568 saw Albion triumph 3-1 courtesy of goals from Paul Gretton, a Jason Rhodes penalty and one from Robbie Briscoe.

The Brewers last visit to the Memorial Ground was on Saturday 17th October 2020. It was during Covid times so they were no fans in attendance. Jake Buxton’s side earned their first away point of the season at the fourth attempt. James Daly gave the Gas the lead in the 52nd minute, before Kane Hemmings equalised in the 78th minute. It was Hemmings first goal in Burton colours, before going on to score 15 before the end of the season.

It was a goalless draw when Albion travelled on New Year's Day 2019. A crowd of 9,060 saw Nigel Clough’s Brewers earn their first away clean sheet at the 12th attempt.

On Friday 21st February 2014 current Brewers coach Chris Beardsley was in the Rovers starting eleven. 5,957 fans saw the home side win 2-0 courtesy of goals from David Clarkson in the 70th minute and one from former Burton player John Joe O’Toole in the 79th minute.

March 2nd 2013 saw Rovers again defeat the Brewers. This time a crowd of 6,065 saw goals from Ryan Brunt in the 5th minute, O’Toole in the 62nd and Eliot Richards in the 70th earn a 3-0 win for the Gas.

Caretaker manager Gary Rowett was in charge of Albion’s first ever visit to Rovers on April 14th 2012. Current Burton player Mustapha Carayol opened the scoring in the 42nd minute. Eliot Richards scored a hat trick with goals in the 46th, 76th and 81st minute. Matt Harrold netted a brace in the 61st and 75th minute, with Jim Paterson netting another in the 65th minute. Burton were only two goals down when Calvin Zola scored in the 54th minute, but it proved to be Albion’s joint worst ever Football League defeat, as almost every shot Rovers had on target went in. For Rowett it was a big learning  day as he later acknowledged that he learnt which players he wanted to keep and which wouldn’t be part of his future plans.
