MAAMRIA CONFIRMS TAYLOR AND WINNALL OUT FOR THE SEASON

23 February 2023

DINO Maamria has confirmed that Terry Taylor and Sam Winnall will miss the remainder of the season through injury.

During today's pre-Accrington Stanley press conference, the Brewers manager confirmed that both players will be absent for the remainder of the season and will require operations.

Wales U21 captain Taylor has been a vital player for Albion this season, but despite keeping his fingers crossed, Maamria has confirmed that the midfielder will require surgery following the ankle injury obtained during this month's away win at Fleetwood.

Winnall’s injury was another case of poor fortune, as the striker also received an impact on his ankle whilst doing all he could to ensure the ball crossed the line during the away win at Bristol Rovers last weekend.

The goal proved to be the winner by Winnall, in a game which saw the Brewers make it four wins in the last five.

Prior to Saturday's home clash with Accrington Stanley, Maamria said he was happy with the latest additions to his squad since the January transfer window, but the Brewers manager was keen to praise the entirity of the team since their arrivals.

“I’m quite surprised with how quickly the team has gelled together,” said Maamria.

“It’s a risk when you have a huge turnover of players, but we’re in a good place. It’s always rewarding when you make that many changes and get positive results."

Despite the recent run of form, which has seen The Brewers move outside of the relegation zone with games in hand, the Brewers manager says he is well aware of how quickly things can change in League One.

“Of course, we are not out of danger yet,” claimed Maamria.

“We have to focus on one game at a time. We never look too far ahead. We never look back unless it’s to review a game. We just need to keep taking it one game at a time and then the league table will take care of itself.

“We look at our form and that gives us belief and confidence to move forward, but we are still one of eight or nine teams in that danger zone.

"We’ve still got a lot of the season left to play so there will be twists and turns, ups and downs, and we’ve got to be ready for that.”

Maamria has also provided injury updates on several other players that have picked up injuries over the past few weeks.

Chris McCann, who suffered from concussion during Saturday's win at Bristol Rovers, also has a calf injury and will miss out on Stanley's visit to the Pirelli Stadium.

Maamria confirmed that Bobby Kamwa, Ciaran Gilligan, Jonny Smith, and Mark Helm are all close to returning, and could be available for selection this weekend.
