FACTS and figures relating to tomorrow's home game against Accrington from Tony Bentley.

The last time that Burton Albion played on 25th February was back in 2014 when they made the long Tuesday night trip to Torquay United in League Two. A crowd of 1,583 was present at Plainmoor to see Damien McCrory give Albion a 33rd minute, before Eliot Benyon equalised in the 40th minute to earn a share of the points.

Back in 2012 it was a trip to Cheltenham Town for Paul Peschisolido’s side who were winless since Boxing Day. England goalkeeper Jack Butland was in goal for the home side that also included former Brewers midfielder Russ Penn in their midfield. Goals from Jermaine McGlashan after five minutes and Sido Jombati after 73 sent the majority of the 2,945 fans home happy.

In 2006 Albion travelled to face the same opponents as this weekend – Accrington Stanley.  That time it was in the Nationwide Conference where a crowd of 1,946 saw future Burton defender – Phil Edwards – in the home side. Paul Mullin gave Stanley a 9th minute lead, before Jon Shaw equalised for Nigel Clough’s side right on half time. Burton looked to have earned a draw, only for Robbie Williams to fire a 90th minute winner for Accrington.

It was a trip to South Wales on 25th February 2000 for a Southern Premier League game against Newport County. A crowd of 674 saw Darren Stride score for the Brewers in a 1-1 draw.

1997 saw a trip to Racing Club Warwick for a Dr Marten's League Cup Semi Final 1st Leg tie. 533 fans were in attendance to see a fine 4-1 victory for Burton courtesy of goals from Les Hornby, Micky Nuttall, Martin Devaney and Mickey Cotter. Albion would go on to win the 2nd leg by the same margin, before beating Sudbury Town in the final.

The last time Accrington Stanley faced Burton in a league game at the Pirelli Stadium was on Tuesday 23rd November 2021 with the Brewers earning thumping 4-0 win.

On Saturday 25th January 2020 Dion Charles scored a 15th minute opener for Accrington. John Brayford was on the scoresheet for Burton, equalising in the 30th minute to earn a share on the points in front of 2,759 fans.
