WILL EVANS IS APPOINTED HEAD OF COMMUNITY

3 January 2023

BURTON Albion Community Trust has appointed Will Evans as the new Head of Community.

Will starts work at the Pirelli Stadium on February 13, bringing a wealth of experience across multiple sports and school partnerships.

Born in Burton, he has always been a Brewers supporter, making this his “perfect job”

He currently lives in Derby with his wife and two children and is the Head of Clubs and Regions at the British Triathlon Federation.

He said: “I have been a Brewers fan from when I first started watching football, that’s why I’m so excited to become part of the club.

“We found my 1987 Wembley shirt recently in the garage and it was at Eton Park and standing on grass banks behind the goal where I started with Burton Albion.

“My dad, mum and sister are all Brewers Season Ticket holders although they don’t watch the game together! My mum and sister sit in the stand, and dad stands opposite them.”

Before working for British Triathlon, Will was Head of Delivery at England Golf and Partnership Manager at England Netball. For six years he was Development Manager at Derby City Schools Sport Partnership which led him to working with Derby County Community Trust.

He said: “I’m really looking forward to getting back into seeing the impact of the work on the community.

“When this came up it was a job I had to apply for as it combines all the personal draws, the family connections with the town and club, as well as what I want to achieve in work. It all combined to make it the perfect job for me.”

Will is now looking forward to starting his new role.

He said: “Burton Albion Community Trust is in a really good place. It’s widely respected and has grown massively. My job is to keep that going and build further on these great foundations.

“It will be a case of me coming in and looking at how we can build on what we are already doing and dealing with challenges that are happening now or will come in the future that weren’t happening a couple of years ago. Clearly cost of living is a massive issue that presents big challenges to people in East Staffordshire and the football club has an important role to play in supporting people in whatever way we can.

“There’s another piece of work around how we do things sustainably. How do we make the football club a beacon of environmental sustainability so that we aren’t damaging things but are adding to the local environment as well?”

Burton Albion Chairman Ben Robinson said: “Will has all the experience and imagination to make an ideal Head of Community and was the outstanding candidate for the job.

“He already knows Burton Albion well and understands how supporting the community is at the heart of everything we do.

“We are very proud of all that has been achieved by BACT and with Will at the helm we look forward to even greater success in the years to come.”

BACT Chairman Phil Pusey said: "I am delighted we have appointed Will as our new Head of Community.  He shone through a robust recruitment process and brings a vast array of leadership experience within the sports sector from various local, regional and national roles, as well as a fresh, objective perspective to the organisation.

“We hope this combination will support our journey of continuous development and improvement within the Trust.  I look forward to working with him as Chair of Trustees, and ensuring he has the support he needs to keep Burton Albion at the very top of the Community Trust tree.”
