EFL WEEK OF ACTION | BURTON ALBION PLAYERS VISIT EXTRA TIME HUB

18 January 2023

BURTON Albion mens first team stars Deji Oshilaja, Terry Taylor and Tom Hamer visited an Extra Time Hub session as part of EFL’s Week of Action.

#EFLWeekofAction showcases the incredible impact that all 72 EFL clubs have in supporting their respective communities. Data from 2019-2022 shows that Club Community Organisations (CCOs) generated more than £865million of social value to towns and cities across the country.

Extra Time Hub is a social session for people aged 50+ aimed at combatting social isolation. In various locations across East Staffordshire, Burton Albion Community Trust hosts the sessions which feature quizzes, table tennis, games and of course, bingo.

The lads got stuck in from the off and immediately volunteered as callers for the all important bingo. They rounded off the session with table tennis and a music quiz.

Brewers first team star Deji Oshilaja spoke of the importance of the session and of community to the club. “I’ve always said that Burton Albion is a family club. The session is very good for the elderly and those who have struggled during the last couple of years. To have opportunities like Extra Time Hub and to be in the warm during these hard times is brilliant.”

He also stressed the importance of EFL’s week of action. “I think Week Of Action is massively important. Without communities there are no football clubs.

“It’s a good opportunity for clubs to pay their communities back and it’s a good opportunity for the communities to feel special because of their football clubs.”

“Sometimes you get lost in the money of football but it’s little things like this that make a huge difference.”

Amy Lewis, Health and wellbeing community team leader who also runs BACT’s Extra Time Hubs said: “It’s been brilliant and all the participants have loved having the lads down here today. It’s saved me a job as they’ve done the bingo calling for me!”

“Week Of Action is really important because all of the work we do at BACT is for our communities.”
