BURTON ALBION COMPLETE LOAN SIGNING OF CENTRE-BACK JASPER MOON FROM BARNSLEY

18 January 2023

BURTON Albion Football Club is delighted to confirm the loan signing of centre-back Jasper Moon on loan from Barnsley for the remainder of the 2022/23 season.

The 22-year-old, who has made 28 Championship appearances for the Tykes and can play at centre-half or in central midfield, bolsters Dino Maamria's defensive options for the second half of the campaign.

The Coventry-born defender has been part of Barnsley's Academy for more than five years and, having spent time on loan with York City in the 2018/19 season, made his breakthrough into the first team at Oakwell in 2020, in a Yorkshire derby against Rotherham United.

Moon would make a string of Championship appearances in the first half of last season, and has now come to the Brewers on loan as he looks for regular first-team football.

"Jasper is a player, who has played more than 20 games in the Championship - he's a proper defender," said manager Dino Maamria.

"We want to thank Barnsley for allowing Jasper to come to us. He is another one who is going to come in to improve our back line.

"It's an area of the pitch that we are looking to strengthen and there’s more to come."

Moon is looking forward to proving himself at League One level, and says he is up for the fight as the Brewers look to climb out of the bottom four.

"It feels really good to be here - it's something I pushed for," said Moon. "It's a matter of just playing games now and help the team fight the battles we've been fighting.

"There's something to fight for here. As a young player, that's something you want to do and you want to prove yourself. It's good to have that challenge.

"Staying in the league is the main goal, and I think that's very much achievable."
