SAM LAVELLE SIGNS ON LOAN UNTIL THE END OF THE SEASON

31 January 2023

BURTON Albion have signed defender Sam Lavelle on loan from Charlton Athletic until the end of the season.

The 26-year-old has made 41 appearances for the Addicks since joining on transfer deadline day in August 2021, scoring two goals.

The Blackpool-born defender began his career at Blackburn Rovers, where he spent 12 years before moving to Bolton Wanderers ahead of the 2016/17 season.

In a bid to gain regular first team football, the Scotland youth international joined Morecambe in the summer of 2017.

Lavelle would go on to earn 165 appearances across four seasons with the Shrimps, culminating with the centre back captaining his Morecambe side to promotion to the third tier for the first time in the club's history.

Dino Maamria was delighted to add another defender to the Brewers squad on prior to the transfer deadline window closing.

He said: “We’ve been looking to strengthen that area of the pitch and we’re really happy to get it done so late on.

“With Lavelle, we’ve brought legs, youth and experience at the same time, as he’s played plenty of League One and Two games.”

On signing, Lavelle said: "I'm buzzing to get this one sorted and to get it over the line in time.

"If I’m honest it’s been a mad few days with some of the options that I had, and I’m positive I’ve made the right choice.

"This was the best option for me after speaking to the gaffer this afternoon and the idea of helping burton stay in the division was a challenge that excited me.

"I’m up for the fight and can’t wait to get going starting this Saturday!"
