BURTON Albion were narrowly edged out by a single goal as they stepped up their pre-season preparations in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Premier League newboys Burnley.
The Brewers gave a solid account of themselves against Vincent Company’s Championship centurions.
Both sides made plenty of changes, ensuring all players got vital minutes in the tank. Burnley's recent signing Basilio Rieno Socoliche scored the only goal of the game in the 87th minute.
Joe Powell went closest to scoring with his effort from outside the box requiring a strong save to tip it onto the bar and narrowly bouncing the wrong side of the line from an Albion perspective.
Burton Albion Albion manager Dino Maamria said: “It’s been a solid run out and a good workout for us. We’re very happy with where we’re at just two weeks into pre-season. Most of the lads have played at least 60-75 minutes against Burnley’s first team.
"We competed really well and went toe to toe with them. We had a couple of good chances and got into good areas ourselves. We lacked the final pass but it’s a work in progress."
