BURTON Albion has signed Ryan Sweeney on a permanent deal after the expiry of his contract at Dundee, subject to international clearance.
The 26 year-old, who made 67 appearances for the Dark Blues during a two-year spell and scoring eight goals, has signed a two-year deal at the Pirelli Stadium.
Sweeney began his career at AFC Wimbledon before being snapped up by Stoke City in 2016. He made 11 appearances for their under-21 side but left without making an appearance for the first team. He signed for Bristol Rovers on loan in January 2017 and spent the 17-18 season with the Pirates, becoming a firm fan favourite.
After joining Mansfield Town on loan for the 2018-19 season, the towering defender went on to make the permanent switch to Field Mill, clocking up 82 appearances and scoring four goals. He departed the Stags and headed to Scotland, spending two seasons with Dundee.
He has represented the Republic of Ireland at under-19 and under-21 level.
On signing for the Brewers, Sweeney said "It's been a couple of weeks in the making and I'm delighted it's over the line now. I trained this morning and I'm ready to kick on.
"The interest from the club started a couple of weeks ago and then I came and met the manager (Dino Maamria) and had a really good meeting with him and after that it was a case of trying to get the deal over the line.
"Once I'd met the manager and seeing how he wants his teams to play, it alligned with how I see the game being played and I'm looking forward to playing with the team."
Brewers Manager Dino maamria said: "It's brilliant to sign Ryan. He's obviously got experience in League One before. He's just won promotion from the Scottish Championship with Dundee in Scotland.
"He's that missing link in our back line. Naturally left footed and dominant in the air and he compliments our back line very well and is a very good addition for us."
