JOE KIRKLAND ANNOUNCED AS NEW BAFC WOMEN'S MANAGER

19 July 2023

BURTON Albion Women have announced Joe Kirkland as their new manager.

Previous manager Tommy Booth stepped down over the summer and Kirkland, who previously coached the development side has taken the job. Joe will be assisted by skipper Amber-Leigh Denny. Here's Joe's first interview as manager.

How does it feel to take up the role?

I’m both delighted, and excited to be back at a club I love so much. I know that I’m in a very privileged position here where I can help to develop not just the first team, but the entire women's section.

Why did you want to take up the role?

I love the club; I understand what it means to represent Burton Albion and I take great pride in doing so. We all know how much of a family club Burton is, and I think that collective feel is important. The club is backing women's football, and I can't wait to be a part of that.

What are your goals for the season?

Our aim will be to try and win every match that we go into, but more importantly to set high standards in everything that we do. I want to make it clear that we aren’t here for the sake of it, we all intend on competing at a high level, and so does the club. We'll do everything that we can to get this team back to where it belongs. I want to find out what makes each player tick, and how we as a group can get them to reach their potential.

What's your relationship with the team so far?

Having worked with a lot of the players before, I know what we’re capable of achieving, and it’s now down to me and my coaching staff to give them that platform to kick on and achieve success. The players are amazing, I want to generate a belief that we can all achieve something special together and I really do believe that this is what's going to happen.
