JOHN DREYER APPOINTED ASSISTANT MANAGER AT BURTON ALBION

29 June 2023

JOHN Dreyer has been appointed as assistant manager at Burton Albion after arriving at the Pirelli Stadium from National League Barnet.

Dreyer enjoyed a long and successful playing career, notching up more than 200 appearances in more than six years for Luton Town and also playing for Oxford United, Stoke City, Bradford City and Cambridge United.

His post playing career included a successful time as manager of Maidenhead United before spells as assistant manager at Preston and Oldham before joining Barnet in February 2022.

The 60-year-old brings a wealth of experience to the Brewers backroom team after agreeing to make the move from The Hive to the Pirelli Stadium.

Brewers manager Dino Maamria said: "I have known John for a long time and we worked together at places like Stevenage and Oldham. He's very experienced, has good knowledge at this level and got promoted with Preston a few years back. His knowledge of the game will make him very valuable to us.

"I felt we needed an addition in the backroom staff to harness and enhance what we have already got and he's going to be a great asset to the football club."

Barnet Head Coach Dean Brennan said: “I’m gutted that Tumble’s going but at the same time delighted for him. He’s a close friend of mine, a brilliant footballing mind and most importantly a trusted colleague. Our loss is Burton’s gain; they’ve got themselves a real asset.”

Dreyer said: “We have known each other a long time and I know how Dino works and hopefully I can come and help and assist him in any way I can.

"I was delighted to get the call and be invited down here. I spoke to the Chairman and I told him I have always loved coming here as a supporter, a scout, as a football person. It's always been a nice friendly club and a nice environment to be around. I'm really happy to be here.

"It's important to be here at this stage, to learn about the players and to understand them and build relations. It would be harder coming in three or four weeks later with the season starting so it's good to have this time with the players and to work together for the start of the season."
