CLUB STATEMENT | BURTON ALBION WOMEN

3 March 2023

Burton Albion Football Club can confirm that our women’s first team have made the difficult decision not to compete in this weekend’s WMRWFL Premier Cup fixture against Kidderminster Harriers.

This follows several incidents in last Sunday’s league fixture against Kidderminster - one of which led to one of our players suffering a serious head and neck injury that has required several hospital visits - and as such the team have taken the difficult decision to forfeit this weekend’s cup game.

Manager Tommy Booth said: “We take the welfare and safety of our players, staff and volunteers incredibly seriously, and we deeply regret having to take this course of action.

“However, given the events that took place during last week’s match at the Pirelli Stadium, we have been left with no choice with welfare and safety in mind.

“A full complaint has been made to the league, who have been made fully aware of our decision and the full list of reasons that have led to it.

“We stand with our players and their decision, we wish our centre-half Charlotte Jarvis a speedy recovery from her injuries, and look forward to returning to action next weekend away at Lye Town.”

There will be no further comment at this time.
