SAM Hughes was voted Player of the Season for 2022-23 after picking up nearly 40 per cent of a record number of fan votes.

Hughes has been a towering figure at the heart of the Brewers defence and has become a firm favourite with supporters.

He said: "Every single one of the lads have been ubelievable so I wasn't expecting this. It has been an incredible effort.

"My main aim was to play as many games as I could and I have done that. The hardest thing to do is find consistency and I'm delighted with that this season.

Brewers fans also voted in large numbers to induct our former manager Nigel Clough into the Hall of Fame.

The longest-serving manager in the club’s history is also the most successful, securing our first ever league title and masterminding two more promotions and a League Cup semi-final against Manchester City.

Chairman Ben Robinson paid tribute to the former Bewers’ boss and the massive contribution he has made to the football club.

He said: "We wouldn't be here today in the Pirelli Stadium without Nigel Clough and we have never stopped pinching ourselves at all that has been achieved."

Looking back on his two spells at the club Nigel Clough said: "Staying in the Championship with a game to spare was incredible - as we were nailed on favourites to go down.

"One regret was not being here when we got promoted to the Football League - we just needed another four weeks. But it was a pivotal moment for the club.

"When you spend 15 years at a club it gets in your blood and you feel very proud when you come back. It's a special place and what makes it special are the people."

Terry Taylor won two awards - Most Improved Young Player and Player of the Season Runner Up.

He said: "I wasn't expecting this as there are a lot of boys who have done well but this is an honour."

Deji Oshilaja was a double winner - Community Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Season.

He said: "For me personally to be voted by my team-mates is very important as they see the hard work we put in every day."
