A RECAP of facts, trivia and information from throughout the 2022/23 season, by Club Statistician Tony Bentley

  • The Brewers used 41 different players in their 46 league games, the most ever in their 14 years in the Football League


  • John Brayford started 43 of the 46 league games this season, the most of all players. He also made his 250th Football League appearance for the Brewers in the penultimate game against Cambridge United.


  • Sam Hughes started 42 matches, and his 3,780 minutes were the most played by any Burton player in the league.


  • Deji Oshilaja with 40 league starts and Tom Hamer 35, were the only other two players to start more than 30 games this season.


  • At the other end of the scale, Michael Mancienne came on in the 90th minute of the victory at Forest Green in December, therefore he records as only playing for one minute in the season!


  • Tom Hamer became just the 12th player to make 100 Football League starts for the club, when he returned to the side after injury for the final game of the season against MK Dons.


  • Their 15th placed League finish was the first time since 2016/17, when they finished 20th in the Championship, that they have finished in a higher league position than the previous season. In 2017/18 - 23rd in Championship, 2018/19 - 9th in League One, 2019/20 - 12th in League One, 2020/21 - 16th in League One, and 2021/22 - 16th in League One.


  • Burton earned 34 of their 56 points at home, and 22 away.


  • The Brewers scored 57 league goals the 13th best in the division, with 18 different scorers.


  • Burton used four different goalkeepers for the 46 league games. Ben Garratt made 21 starts, Craig MacGillivray 19, Viljami Sinisalo 4 and Jordan Amissah 2. Garratt conceded 40 goals with 3 clean sheets, earning 0.86 points per game. MacGillivray conceded 25 goals with 6 clean sheets, earning 1.63 points per game. Sinisalo conceded 10 goals with 0 clean sheets, earning 0.50 points per game. Amissah conceded 4 goals with 1 clean sheet, earning 1.5 points per game.


  • Manager Dino Maamria earned 55 points from his 39 games in charge of the team, at a rate of 1.41 points per game.


  • Albion were continually in the relegation zone from the first day defeat at Wycombe Wanderers on 31st July through until 4th February when they won 3-2 at Fleetwood, a period of 189 days. The only exception to that was the 3 days after they won at Forest Green on 29th December when they briefly climbed to 20th, only to drop back into the drop zone on New Years Day after the 5-0 thumping at Morecambe.


  • Both the highest home and away attendances this season were recorded against Derby County. A crowd of 5,922 saw the 1-1 home draw on Saturday 10th December 2022, and a crowd of 29,304 saw the 1-0 defeat at Pride Park on Saturday 22nd April 2023.


  • The average home league attendance at the Pirelli Stadium this season was 3,445. This is their highest in the four seasons (with crowds) they have had in League One, since being relegated from the Championship in 2017/18.


  • The Brewers completed a league double (home and away victories) against three sides this season – Lincoln City, Exeter City and Forest Green Rovers.
