ACADEMY HOST CELEBRATION EVENING FOR NEXT GENERATION OF POTENTIAL BREWERS STARS

17 May 2023

BURTON Albion Academy hosted their annual awards evening at the Pirelli Stadium this week to celebrate another fantastic season both on and off the pitch.

Hosted by the club's Player Care Lead, Aaron Webster, the evening featured a look back at another successful season for the club's homegrown talent, with a showcase of goals and memorable moments from throughout the year.

It’s been a jet-setting campaign for the academy with various age groups heading oversees to play tournament football against sides from across the globe. The under-10s faced the likes of Manchester United and West Ham at Oakham School, whilst the under-11 age group toured Rotterdam, Netherlands. The under-12s narrowly missed out on winning the Ateitis Cup during a trip to Lithuania, losing on penalties to Queens Park Rangers in the final, whilst the under-14s finished joint 9th place with Juventus in the Neon Elite tournament in Athens, Greece.

Deji Oshilaja was in attendance at the night and took to the stage in a Q&A, passing on his wisdom to the budding youngsters and looking back at his own journey into professional football.

Sponsors of the Academy's respective age groups were also in attendance, with thanks going to Gaskell Safety, Rushcliff, Prestec, Salloway, RAES, UK Waterproofing, Arken, Knott and M&P Preservation for their invaluable support throughout the season.

The players were given the chance to grace the Pirelli Stadium pitch with an end of season match, before the evening concluded with a talk from Head of Academy Dan Robinson.

Following the event, club Hall of Famer Aaron Webster, said: “It’s been a brilliant evening and thanks to everyone who attended. It gave us a great opportunity for parents, players and staff to celebrate another brilliant year for the Academy. Thanks to our sponsors who attended the evening as their support makes the work we do possible.

“It was brilliant to have Deji attend the evening too and hopefully the academy players take something away from him and his story. We look forward to a well-earned rest and then to come back bigger and stronger for the 2023/24 season.”
