BURTON ALBION 2022-23 RETAINED/RELEASED LIST

17 May 2023

EIGHT players have been offered new deals by Burton Albion as Dino Maamria looks to build his squad for the 2023/24 season.

Mustapha Carayol, Tom Hewlett, Craig MacGillivray, Jakub Niemczyk, Tom Hamer, Deji Oshilja, Conor Shaughnessy and Terry Taylor are all out of contract this summer, but the Albion manager hopes to retain their services at the Pirelli Stadium.

A further eight players remain under contract: Joe Powell, Josh Walker, Mark Helm, Sam Hughes, John Brayford, Bobby Kamwa, Ciaran Gilligan and Charlie Lakin.

In addition, young defender Finn Delap has been offered a pro contract.

Michael Mancienne has called time on his career and has decided to retire following nearly 18 years in the professional game.

Ten players have been released after not being offered new deals. They are: Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Ben Radcliffe, Thierry Latty-Fairweather, William Kokolo, Louis Moult, Chris McCann, Sam Winnall, Ben Garratt, Jonny Smith and Callum Hawkins.

Maamria said: “We thank all of them for their contributions and wish them well.”

Seven players who have been on loan with the Brewers will be returning to their parent clubs.

They are Charlie Kirk, Jasper Moon, Sam Lavelle, Gassan Ahadme, Jordan Amissah, Zac Ashworth and Dale Taylor.

Maamria said: “All our loan players this season showed the right attitude and embraced what we were trying to do and relished the challenge. They came in as young boys, and they go back as men. It was great for us and a good experience for them as well.

“We now have to recruit a lot of players in the summer, and we have a lot of work to do in the next few weeks. We recruited the right players in January and need to do that again.”
