MANAGER'S VERDICT: PORT VALE

4 November 2023

DINO Maamria says his Burton Albion side were unlucky not to come away with the win after the Brewers had to settle for a replay against ten-man Port Vale.

"We threw everything at it today. We threw all of our attackers on the pitch to try and win it. We got the winner but unfortunately it was wrongly ruled out.

"We hit that post twice and we had numerous opportunities to score and we didn't. We gave everything we've got and now we'll play them again in ten days time."

Although Vale were reduced to 10 men in the first half, Maamria explained that sometimes it's harder to play against a team with less players on the pitch.

"The red card changes the game, they put men behind the ball and it becomes difficult especially away from home. Ultimately we created a lot of chances and we scored a legitimate goal that we didn't get.

"It's two clean sheets in a row and considering we've got six players out that's very good. Two clean sheets and creating a lot of chances is always a positive to take" he said.

Despite still being in the hat for the next round, the Brewers will have to get through the replay at the Pirelli Stadium, where Maamria is expecting another tough game.

"The replay is going to be a good game as it's always a good game between us and Port Vale. They'll bring a big crowd on a midweek night and we're looking forward to another big game."

Now the attention turns to Tuesday night where the Brewers take on Doncaster Rovers in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy with the aim of progressing in another competition.

"We've got a few knocks and the squad is being really stretched, so we've got to try and avoid any more injuries leading up to next week."
