BREWERS DRAWN AWAY AT STEVENAGE IN FA CUP SECOND ROUND

5 November 2023

BURTON Albion will face Stevenage away in the Second Round of the Emirates FA Cup - if they can overcome Port Vale first.

The Brewers drew 0-0 at Vale Park on Saturday and will have to win the replay at the Pirelli Stadium if they want to make progress in the competition.

If they come through the replay they will then have to travel again in the Second Round to fellow League One side Stevenage, who are currently sixth in the table.

The Brewers are at home to Stevenage on Saturday December 9 in League One meaning the clubs could play each other on consecutive weekends.

The 20 ties in the Second Round proper will take place across the weekend of Saturday December 2, and the winning sides will take home £67,000 from the competition’s prize fund.

Brewers manager Dino Maamria said: "The total focus at the moment is to get through against a good Port Vale team but this is another equally tough draw like Port Vale away. But to get to the Third or Fourth Round you have to come through these tough ties.

"Stevenage have a great history in the FA Cup and it's a local game for me and my family and we will do everything possible to beat Port Vale so we can go and enjoy a trip to Stevenage.

"I spent 14 years at the club as player, coach and manager and that gives me an extra motivation to beat Port Vale.

"We did everything we could to win the game at Port Vale and we have to do that again in the replay.  That will be our first home game for a while and we have won four and drawn one in the last five games and we need the Pirelli to be a fortress and our fans to turn up in numbers and help us get through to the next round."
