MANAGER'S VERDICT: LINCOLN CITY

14 October 2023

DINO Maamria felt like his side produced a terrific performance against a very tough side in their 1-0 win over Lincoln City.

Burton Albion made it three wins in a row and extended their unbeaten run to seven games after a Joe Powell corner was deflected into his own net by Jack Burroughs to give Burton the three points at the LNER Stadium.

After the game, Maamria said: “It was a terrific performance from start to finish, our shape and structure was very good throughout.

“I thought we controlled the first half and played some very good football, in defence we were very solid and compact as a team. In the second half we should’ve controlled it a bit more and maybe score a second or third goal to kill the game off.

“The only thing to criticise would be that we didn’t test their keeper enough, we had brilliant opportunities to get that second and third goal but we missed some very good opportunities today,” he said.

Maamria praised the whole squad for the performance and was pleased that they executed the game plan well.

“We knew that when we come here you have to control the ball and you can’t just defend. You have to go through the third, attack and show thrust when you need too.

“We wanted the game to be tight, we wanted them to have the ball so we could set traps to win the ball back high up. We knew where they were going to attack and I thought our back four were brilliant. I thought our wide players did a brilliant job defensively and attacking wise.”

The Brewers play Bristol Rovers at home next Saturday where Maamria will be hoping to extend their unbeaten run.

“We know Bristol Rovers have some very good players at this level and it’s going to be a tough game. We need the Pirelli Stadium bouncing with a lot of fans coming through the gates to support this amazing team.

“I’m glad for the fans today that backed us in good numbers and we’ll need them again against Bristol Rovers next Saturday.”
