BLLY BREWER DROPS IN WITH FOOTBALLS FOR RESCUE DOGS

12 September 2023

BILLY Brewer has paid a visit to the RSPCA Hillfield Animal Centre to deliver a box of used footballs for the dogs to play with.

Burton Albion is always accumulating balls that can no longer be used for games but can still provide hours of entertainment for dogs, which is why Billy answered a plea from the centre.

Amanda Lovett, CEO of the centre, said: “Lots of our dogs love playing with footballs and we can’t buy them in quickly enough, so second hand balls where it doesn’t matter if they get punctured are fantastic and the dogs love them.”

Cats, dogs and rabbits are housed at the centre, but it doesn’t turn down help for any animal in need. There are up to 60 dogs at the centre at any one time.

Amanda said: “We take in a lot of cruelly treated animals, unwanted animals, strays and injured animals. We are full to the capacity at the moment and using foster homes so we do need people to come along and adopt. People can look at the animals on our website.

“We don’t get any money from the national RSPCA so we are all self funded and we have to raise money in the area and we are always asking for help with things we have to buy for the animals and people are very generous and supportive of us. A couple got married recently and gave all their wedding gift money to us.

“We have a small group of staff and a big group of volunteers so if anyone wants to help or fundraise for us, please get in touch. It’s only by the generosity of local people that we can carry on."
