THE Pirelli Stadium has hosted a successful Sporting Dinner for Burton Hockey Club which raised more than £7,500.
Former Derbyshire and England cricketer Geoff Miller was the guest speaker at the event, which was organised by Burton Hockey Club as part of its preparations for its 125th anniversary.
Geoff Miller, a celebrated after dinner speaker entertained the audience with a string of tales about his sporting life. He had a long successful spell with Derbyshire, becoming the captain in 1979 and leading them to a Natwest Trophy success in 1981. He played 34 tests for England, alongside legends of the game such as Ian Botham, David Gower, Graham Gooch, Mike Gatting and Bob Willis
Joining him on the night was sporting impressionist Aaron James.
All the proceeds will go towards the development of young talent at Burton Hockey Club and in maintaining the pitch.
Burton Hockey Club has five men’s teams, three women’s teams, a mixed team and runs a Hockey Academy for all younger age groups.
Burton Albion FC donated matchday hospitality packages to the fundraising auction which helped raise £700.
Ian Whetton from Burton Hockey Club said: “A fantastic night was enjoyed by over 120 people made up of local companies and hockey club members.
"The crowd were entertained by the extremely humorous Aaron James and many funny stories and anecdotes from ex-England Cricketer and selector Geoff Miller.
"The event also had a charity raffle and auction of fine art and other items. The night went amazingly well with great service, food and surroundings.
"The overall service at Burton Albion was of the highest standard as well as great support of the event by Chairman Ben Robinson. The night raised over £7,500 for the hockey club.”
