BURTON Albion Manager Martin Paterson says his side need to take the momentum from this afternoon's win into the remainder of the season.

Goals from Tom Hamer and Mark Helm helped the Brewers to a gritty 2-1 win over 10-man Stevenage at the Lamex Stadium.

After the win, Paterson said: "We knew it was going to be difficult, but there were aspects that we were working on to try and hurt them and it came off.

"We knew that when they went down to ten men, we had to see the game out and we tried to keep the team high, but with points being so precious at the moment, I understand the players' nature to drop.

"From my experience, playing against ten men is more difficult becuse it changes the press and the information you give the players before the game, everyone ends up everywhere.

"Today we managed to see it out and it was really important that we did that, it's not about the aesthetics, it's about winning games.

"The players gave everything they had, I've spoken about emotional control and today the players had that, I think it was almost a complete performance" he said.

"Now that we've put a small marker down, it's important that we repair and recover so we can come out fireing on Tuesday."

Paterson also mentioned the importance of staying together in this current time and the scenes at the end of the game highlighted the togetherness of the group.

"I enjoy celebrating with the fans and the most important thing is, on Tuesday we need to give the fans something to scream and shout about and get behind.

"I've told the lads that it's all about the yellow shirts, the 11 on the pitch and the the subs all need to be together.

"We know what we need to do in terms of our task and today with the effort levels and the non-negotiables, it's the minimum that I expect.

"We don't need to do a lot before the next game, it's about recovery and keeping those standards," he said.
