FACTS and figures relating to tomorrow’s home game against Lincoln City from Tony Bentley


The Brewers have only ever played once before on February 3 in the Football League. It was a visit to Villa Park on this date in 2018 for a Championship fixture played in front of 33,022 fans. Scott Hogan put Villa ahead in the 33rd minute, before Albert Adomah doubled the lead in the 65th minute. Burton pulled a goal back when Ahmed Elmohamady put through his own net, under pressure, in the 71st minute. Jack Grealish made it 3-1 to Villa in the 88th minute, before long time injured Liam Boyce scored on his Albion debut in the second minute of stoppage time. Introduced in the 72nd minute, Boyce got the better of John Terry before neatly finishing to make the final score 3-2.

It was a Football Conference fixture in 2007, when Albion made the long trip to Dorset to face Weymouth. A young John Brayford was in the Albion side as Shaun Harrad put Burton ahead in the 38th minute. Victory was denied in the 90th minute when future Albion striker Stuart Beavon equalised for the Terras, in front of 1,370 fans.

Tuesday, February 3, 2002 saw Albion travel to Kettering Town for an FA Trophy replay. A crowd of 1,211 saw Jason Turner give Kettering a 14th minute lead. Jon Howard equalised for Albion straight after half time and it remained 1-1. Robbie Talbot scored the winning goal three minutes into extra time to send Nigel Clough’s side through to the next round.

It was another FA Trophy game on Saturday, February 3, 2002 when the Brewers travelled to Conference side Scarborough. A crowd of 1,462 saw Darren Stride score the only goal of the game to see the Brewers progress.


The last time Lincoln City were the visitors to the Pirelli Stadium was on Tuesday, December 26. 2022. A crowd of 3,687 saw the Brewers take the lead in the fifth minute when Sam Hughes headed home a Tom Hamer cross. They doubled the lead in the 14th minute following good interplay between Hamer, Terry Taylor and Jonny Smith. Smith cut inside from the right and ran along the edge of the penalty area before curling a delightful shot around the Lincoln keeper and into the top corner. In the 27th minute Sam Hughes was wrestled to the ground by Paudie O’Connor, and Victor Adeboyejo converted the resultant penalty to earn a 3-0 win.

The Imps also won when they visited during the Covid hit 20/21 season. The behind closed doors encounter on April 20, 2021. saw a first half goal from Timothy Eyoma earn the points.

Lincoln’s first win in Burton came in League One on Saturday, December 7 in 2019. Harry Anderson and a last-minute goal from former Burton loanee Tyler Walker earned all three points for Michael Appleton’s side in front of a crowd of 3,782.

The second meeting in Burton came on March 8, 2011, when Sam Winnall opened the scoring after 11 minutes. Aaron Webster doubled the advantage five minutes before half time. Winnall scored his second via the penalty spot after 75 minutes, before Ashley Grimes scored a consolation goal for Steve Tilson’s side eight minutes from time. Current Brewers winger Mustapha Carayol played for the Imps that day.

The first ever league meeting between the two sides at the Pirelli Stadium came on January 27, 2010, when the Imps were managed by Chris Sutton. Cleveland Taylor scored the only goal of the game volleying home inside the first minute to secure all three League Two points in front of a crowd of 2,109.
