FACTS and figures relating to tonight’s game against Cheltenham Town from Tony Bentley.


The last time Burton Albion played a Football League game on February 6 was in 2021 when top of the table Hull City visited the Pirelli Stadium for a League One encounter. The game saw new signing Johnny Smith make his Albion debut as a 74th minute substitute, and he made an immediate impact on the Brewers fans by scoring the only goal of the game in the 90th minute to earn all three points.

It was another League One game on Saturday, February 6, 2016, when Bradford City were the visitors to the Pirelli Stadium. Mason Bennett, on loan from Derby County at the time, gave Albion a 17th minute lead. Tom Naylor made it 2-2 in the 73rd minute, and Mark Duffy extended the lead four minutes later. Rory McArdle scored a 90th minute consolation for the Bantams in front of 3,796 fans.

Tuesday, February 6,  2010 saw the first ever visit of Port Vale to the Pirelli Stadium. A crowd of 4,644 saw Jacques Maghoma score the only goal of the game in the 39th minute to earn all three points for Paul Peschisolido’s side.  That game marked the second and last appearance for the Brewers of Jamaican defender O’Neil Thompson as an 86th minute substitute. Amazingly his only other appearance for Albion was to start against the same opponents at Vale Park two weeks earlier.

It was a home game in the Southern Premier League against Salisbury City at Eton Park on Saturday, February 6, 1999. A crowd of 690 saw Nigel Clough score the Brewers goal in a 1-2 defeat.

The Brewers made the long trip to Crawley Town on Saturday,  6,February 1993 for another Southern League Premier game. Alan Kurila and Peter Hall scored the Burton goals in a 2-2 draw, in front of 536 fans.


The last time Burton hosted Cheltenham Town was on Saturday, October 22, 2022. A crowd of 2,269 saw Davis Keillor-Dunn spurn the chance to give Albion a first half lead, when he had a penalty kick saved. The only goal of the game came in the 77th minute when Jonny Smith delivered a low cross which Victor Adeboyejo turned home.

It was early in the 2021/22 season when the sides met here on Friday, August 27 2021. Callum Wright gave Cheltenham a 28th minute lead, before Lucas Akins earned a share of the points equalising in the 67th minute in front of 2,909 fans.

The last meeting at Burton in League Two came on Saturda, September 27, 2014. Stuart Beavon’s 34th minute goal earned the Brewers all three points in front of 2,225 fans, as Gary Rowett’s side made in five straight home league wins.

All the goals came in the second half when the sides met on Saturday, January 11, 2014. A crowd of 2,510 saw Byron Harrison put Cheltenham ahead in the 62nd minute. Gary Rowett introduced Dominic Knowles as a 69th minute substitute and was quickly rewarded as the striker scored in both the 72nd and 85th minute to earn his side a 2-1 win.

Byron Harrison also scored when the two sides met at the Pirelli on Saturday, March 9, 2013. Alex MacDonald gave Burton a 22nd minute lead, before Robbie Weir made it 2-0 four minutes later. Weir netted his second and his side’s third in the 48th minute, before Harrison scored a 90th minute consolation in front of 2,680 fans
