PATERSON SAYS THERE IS A LOT MORE TO COME FROM BREWERS SQUAD

15 February 2024

MARTIN Paterson says there is  a lot more to come from his Brewers squad as work on the training ground brings benefits in matches.

The Brewers go into Saturday’s trip to Leyton Orient on the back of a 2-1 win at Bristol Rovers and the Albion manager was delighted with the all-round performance at the Memorial Ground and the progress being made.

"I have had five games now and one performance that I haven’t been happy with, and the others have been good. The group have been really good for me and it’s about moving forward and keeping believing in ourselves

“I believe there is a lot more to come. The time scale for that is always the thing and I’m not going to say I know when it will all come together but this group is better than they believe and at the moment the performances are slowly and gradually getting better.

“There will bumps in the road, dips and games where things don’t go our way but ultimately I know I have a really good group that works really hard and are listening to the detail we are giving them.

“I have been consistent with the messaging, and they know I won’t change my identity and how I want them to play. At the moment, I’m happy with them and I am pushing them. Today was a very competitive day in training, some really good work and I’m looking forward to carrying that into tomorrow and the game on Saturday.”

Leyton Orient are eighth in League One and have beaten both Bolton and Portsmouth since Christmas in a good run of form making it a tough away day for Albion.

Paterson said: “We are well aware of their quality and their form, but the focus goes on us and our identity. It is a challenge, but we are looking forward to it.

“A challenge shouldn’t be a negative it should be a positive. Every week you look at League One and they are tough games but there are opportunities to compete and take on teams like Leyton Orient and for these young men to show how good they are.”
