BURTON Albion has completed the signing of MK Dons forward Jonathan Leko on-loan until the end of the season.

24-year-old Leko becomes the club’s fourth January Transfer Window signing and is available to play in tomorrow’s trip Cambridge United.

The former England youth international has over 150 senior appearances across his time with West Bromwich Albion, Bristol City, Charlton Athletic and Birmingham, scoring 29 goals.

“I’m really happy to be joining on loan,” Leko said in his first interview at the Pirelli Stadium. “I’ve been aware of the interest for a few weeks, so I’m glad it’s done and I’m excited to get started.

“I spoke to the gaffer last week and he has played an important part in me joining. I’ve spoken to Raks, Deji and Sedds as well and they all have great things to say about the club.

“I’m looking forward to playing back in League One and my main aim is to play regular games, get goals and get assists for this club.”

Born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Leko moved to England at the age of eight and joined the West Bromwich Albion Academy just three years later. He made his senior debut for the Baggies in September 2015, before making his top-flight bow later that season at the age of just 16 years and 344 days.

Turning professional in summer 2016, Leko went on to make 23 appearances for West Brom across the next four seasons, while also enjoying loan spells in the Championship with Bristol City and Charlton Athletic.

Leko left the Hawthorns in 2020 to join Birmingham City and played 34 times in his debut campaign with the Blues. He then re-joined Charlton on loan in 2021/22, before signing for MK Dons last January for an undisclosed fee

Manager Martin Paterson said: “He’s someone that has played at very high levels. He comes here with a point to prove and we want to give him the platform to showcase his abilities – he’s fully aware of the team’s identities and what is required from a player that plays for Burton Albion Football Club.”

Leko will wear the number 24 shirt for the Brewers. Welcome, Jonathan!
