FACTS and figures relating to tomorrow’s home game against Peterborough United from Tony Bentley.

The last time Burton Albion played a Football League game on March 9 was back in 2021 on a Tuesday night at AFC Wimbledon. Because of Covid, no fans were allowed to go to Albion’s first ever visit to the new Plough Lane stadium. The only goal of the game came in the 59th minute from a long Tom Hamer throw in. The ball reached Mike Fondop and fell into the path of Michael Bostwick who fired home, as the Brewers recorded their fifth successive away win.

The Brewers hosted Cheltenham Town at the Pirelli on Saturday, March 9, 2013. Alex MacDonald gave Burton a 22nd minute lead, before Robbie Weir made it 2-0 four minutes later. Weir netted his second and his side’s third in the 48th minute, before Byron Harrison scored a 90th minute consolation in front of 2,680 fans.

It was a Conference fixture on Tuesday, March 9, 2004 when Telford United were the visitors to Eton Park. A crowd of 1,244 saw Tony Naylor give Telford a 31st minute lead, before centre half Ian Wright equalised in the 42nd minute for Burton. Robbie Talbot fired a 73rd minute winner to earn all three points for the Brewers.

Saturday, March 9, 2002 was a memorable trip to Whitby Town during the Unibond Premier title winning season. The journey up to the Yorkshire coast saw heavy snow falling, and the pitch upon arrival was covered in surface water. Several of the Whitby players were late arriving due to snow on the Yorkshire Moors, but the referee deemed the pitch playable and the match went ahead despite large pools of water in places. Despite being reduced to 10 men, Whitby went ahead in the 58th minute through David Logan’s deflected free kick. It looked like Nigel Clough’s side were going to lose only their third league match of the season, when defender Paul Talbot fired home from 18 yards in the sixth minute of stoppage to earn a draw.

Peterborough United last visited the Pirelli Stadium on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, and recorded a resounding 2-5 victory over Dino Maamria’s side. Jonson Clarke-Harris opened the scoring in the 12th minute, before Ephron Mason Clark doubled the lead seven minutes later. Joe Powell pulled a gaol back for Burton, before Harrison Burrows made it 3-1 to Posh at half time. Clarke-Harris netted another in the 51st minute, before Jonny Smith made it 2-4 in the 54th minute. Joe Ward completed the victory with a 64th minute goal.

The Brewers hosted Peterborough United here on March 6, 2021, behind closed doors. Kane Hemmings opened the scoring after 54 minutes, before Hayden Carter quickly added a second goal four minutes later. Harrison Burrows scored a 90th minute consolation for Darren Ferguson’s side as Albion earned a vital three points as they fought to avoid relegation.

In 2020 the two sides met here on Leap Year Day – February 29. A crowd of 3,795 saw Mo Eisa give Posh a 52nd minute lead, before current Brewers captain John Brayford earned his side a point with a 65th minute equaliser.

On Saturday, October 27, 2018 Joe Ward opened the scoring after 29 minutes, before Siriki Dembele doubled Posh’s lead in the 58th minute. Jamie Allen quickly reduced the deficit two minutes later for Nigel Clough’s side, but the majority of the 3,600 crowd went home disappointed.
