FACTS and figures relating to tomorrow’s away game at Exeter City from Tony Bentley.


The last time Burton Albion played a Football League game on Tuesday, March 16, was during the Covid hit 2020/21 season when they travelled to Blackpool for a rearranged game. The original game was postponed just 40 minutes before kick off due to a frozen pitch. Hayden Carter gave Albion a 24th minute lead, before it was cancelled out by Luke Garbutt’s equaliser in the 64th minute. The 1-1 draw ended the Brewers run of six successive away wins, but it was a good point as Blackpool finished the season in third place, and got promoted via the Play Off Final.

Blackpool were again the opponents on this date in 2019. This time the fixture was at the Pirelli Stadium when 2,715 fans were present. Liam Boyce gave Burton a 6th minute lead. Jamie Allen doubled the advantage in the 34th minute, and Lucas Akins completed the scoring in the 68th minute for a 3-0 win.

It was a trip to Essex in 2013 when Gary Rowett’s side travelled to Dagenham & Redbridge for a League Two fixture. Lee Bell gave Albion a 34rd minute lead, before Josh Scott earned a share of the points in the 51st minute, in front of 1,364 fans.

The Pirelli Stadium hosted a Blue Square Premier fixture against Weymouth on Sunday, March 16, 2008. James Coutts put the visitors ahead in the 18th minute, before John McGrath equalised in the 68th minute. Current Brewers captain John Brayford scored a 76th minute winner, in front of 1,501 fans.

It was chastening occasion at Eton Park on Tuesday, March 16, 2004. Aldershot Town were the visitors for a Conference fixture played in front of 1,295 fans. Roscoe D’Sane scored twice in the 20th and 47th minute. Jon Challinor made it 0-3 in the 50th minute, before substitute Darren Stride pulled a goal back five minutes later. Tim Sills made it 4-1 to the Shots in the 81st minute to complete the scoring.


The last time the Brewers visited St James Park was on Saturday, September 17, 2022 when Dino Maamria took charge of his second game. A crowd of 6,185 saw Deji Oshilaja score his first Burton goal in the 63rd minute, and this was quickly followed by Davis Keillor Dunn who doubled the lead in the 69th minute to complete a first league win of the season at the ninth attempt.

It was a League Two encounter in Devon on Saturday, December 6, 2014. Jacob Blyth put Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s side ahead in the 60th minute. This was cancelled out by Christian Ribero’s 88th minute equaliser in front of 3,381 fans.

Gary Rowett oversaw a 1-0 win on Saturday, October 26, 2013. A crowd of 3,658 saw defender Phil Edwards head home an 88th minute winner to earn all three points, when one had looked likely.

Saturday, September 1, 2012 saw a comfortable 3-0 over Paul Peschisolido’s Brewers. Former Burton keeper Artur Krysiak was in goal for the Grecians, with future defender Kevin Amankwaah also in their starting eleven. Jamie Cureton in the 19th, and Arron Davis in the 41st minute made in 2-0 at half time. John O’Flynn’s 89th minute third goal sent the majority of the 3,707 fans home happy.

It was a non-league Blue Square Premier encounter on Saturday, November 17, 2007. A crowd of 3,823 saw Jamie Mackie put the home side ahead in the 30th minute. Shaun Harrad equalised three minutes later to make it 1-1 at half time. A quick-fire brace from Daryl Clare, in the 53rd and 58th minute, made it 3-1 before Shaun Harrad netted his second in the 89th minute to complete a fine 4-1 win for Nigel Clough’s side.
