FACTS and figures relating to tomorrow’s away game at Cheltenham Town from Tony Bentley.

Burton Albion last played a Football League game on March 2 in 2021, when they hosted Bristol Rovers on a Tuesday night. Rovers saw Luke McCormick dismissed for a second yellow card in the 52nd minute, and Albion capitalised with Johnny Smith firing home the only goal of the game three minutes later, in a match played without fans during the Covid hit season.

Saturday, March 2, 2019 saw Walsall visit the Pirelli Stadium for a League One fixture. Just like the first ever league meeting in Burton between the sides in 2016, this one also was a goalless affair in front of 3.924 fans.

It was another encounter with Bristol Rovers in 2013, this time on the road. A crowd of 6,065 saw goals from Ryan Brunt in the 5th minute, former Burton player John Joe O’Toole in the 62nd and Eliot Richards in the 70th earn a 3-0 win for the Gas.

It was a Nationwide Conference match on Friday, March 2, 2007, when Altrincham visited the Pirelli Stadium. Daryl Clare put Albion into a 9th minute lead, before Lewis Chalmers equalised for the visitors in the 64th minute. Clare scored his and his side’s second in the 79th minute to secure all three points in front of 1,441 fans.

It was a trip to Cumbria on Saturday, March 2, 2002 to face Barrow at Holker Street. League leaders Burton took the lead in the 32nd minute when Christian Moore headed home Dale Anderson’s cross. Then six minutes later Anderson ran onto Nigel Clough’s defence splitting pass, before racing clear and clipping the ball over the advancing keeper. Steve Housham pulled a goal back in the 67th minute, but it was another important victory in the Unibond Premier winning season.

The Brewers last visited Cheltenham Town on Saturday, April 1, 2023. The two sides played out a goalless draw in front of 3,864 fans, with young defender Thierry Latty-Fairweather making his Football League debut for Burton.

Prior to that it was Saturday, January 8, 2022 when the two sides met again in League One. A crowd of 3,201 saw the home side take the lead through Callum Wright in the 21st minute. Albion improved in the second half and Daniel Jebbison scored a 51st minute equaliser to earn his side a point.

Prior to last year the two sides previously met in League Two on Saturday, February 7, 2015. Albion were pursuing their charge towards the league title, as Stuart Beavon gave them a 21st minute lead. Adam McGurk doubled the lead in the 36th minute, before Phil Edwards made it 3-0 four minutes into the second half. Wes Burns pulled one goal back for the home side, but it was the Albion fans in the crowd of 2,389 who went home happy.

It was the opening game of the 2013/4 season when the two sides met a Whaddon Road on Saturday, August 3, 2013. Gary Rowett named five debutants in his starting line-up, including current England goalkeeper – Jordan Pickford – who made his Football League debut in the game. The four others were Phil Edwards, Rory Delap, Chris Hussey and Adam Reed. The evergreen Jamie Cureton gave the home side an 18th minute lead, when Pickford misjudged the bounce of a long ball forward. Byron Harrison doubled the Cheltenham lead in the 32nd minute. Billy Kee pulled a goal back from the penalty spot right on the stroke of half time. The Brewers earned a share of the points when Rory Delap scored a debut goal in the 56th minute.
