SWEENEY signed for the Brewers in the summer of 2023 after departing Dundee FC in Scotland.
He made 67 appearances for the Dark Blues during a two-year spell and scoring eight goals.
Sweeney began his career at AFC Wimbledon before being snapped up by Stoke City in 2016. He made 11 appearances for their under-21 side but left without making an appearance for the first team. He signed for Bristol Rovers on loan in January 2017 and spent the 17-18 season with the Pirates, becoming a firm fan favourite.
After joining Mansfield Town on loan for the 2018-19 season, the towering defender went on to make the permanent switch to Field Mill, clocking up 82 appearances and scoring four goals. He departed the Stags and headed to Scotland, spending two seasons with Dundee.
He has represented the Republic of Ireland at under-19 and under-21 level.
