John returned to the Pirelli Stadium on August Transfer deadline day signing a two-year contract at the start of his third spell with the club.

John began his senior career with the Brewers having come through the Brewers Academy after his release from Manchester City as a youngster. John was the first graduate of the current youth system at Albion and went on to make over 100 appearances for the first team under current boss Nigel Clough before earning a move to Crewe Alexandra for a shot at the Football League.

Two consistent years at Gresty Road, picking up the Player Of The Year award in both seasons, led to a reunion with Clough at Derby County in 2010 where he also picked up the Player Of The Year Award in his first season at Pride Park.

After three years with the Rams Cardiff City paid a substantial fee to take John to South Wales and although he didn’t feature in the Bluebird’s Premier League campaign he was a key figure upon their return to the Championship. John linked up with Clough for a third time via an initial loan spell at Sheffield United which led to a permanent move to Bramall Lane in 2014.

Injuries limited his opportunities towards the end of his spell with the Blades and John spent the 2016/17 season on loan with Albion impressing once again and being voted as runner-up in the Player Of The Year Award after playing a pivotal role in the club’s survival in their maiden Championship campaign.

A long time target for the Brewers during the summer he linked up with Clough for a fourth time after his release from Sheffield United in the summer of 2017.
