WHOLEHEARTED defender John Brayford is in his third spell with Burton Albion - having begun his senior career with the Brewers, coming through our youth system.
Brayford was the first graduate of the current youth system at Burton Albion and went on to make over 100 appearances for the first team under Nigel Clough before moving to Crewe Alexandra where he twice won Player of the Year.
Reunited with Clough at Derby County in 2010, he again picked up the Player Of The Year Award in his first season at Pride Park, and after three years with the Rams, Cardiff City paid a substantial fee to take John to South Wales and although he didn’t feature in the Bluebird’s Premier League campaign, he was a key figure upon their return to the Championship.
Brayford linked up with Clough for a third time at Sheffield United, although injuries limited his opportunities towards the end of his spell with the Blades and the defender spent the 2016/17 season on loan with Burton Albion before penning that permanent deal after his Blades release in the summer of 2017.
He has continued his third spell with the Brewers, most recently signing a two-year deal keeping him at the Pirelli Stadium until 2022.
