Shaun Barker joined the club in August 2016.

Barker, began his professional career with Rotherham United and went to play over a hundred games for the club in a six year spell scoring seven goals.

Barker joined Blackpool in 2006 and was originally signed as a central defender but played at right back to start with and was announced as vice-captain.

His performances for Blackpool were impressive which saw him linked with Derby County in August 2008. A year later and 134 appearances for Blackpool he joined the Rams under manager Nigel Clough for a fee believed to be in the region of £900,000.

Barker impressed Derby fans with his desire and commitment and he won the fans player of the year trophy.

In March 2012 Barker suffered an horrific injury in a Derby vs Nottingham Forest match suffering multiple injuries to the knee with not many believing he would play again.

In 2014/2015 after multiple surgeries, Barker began to take part in sessions with the Derby Under 21s side. However, he was released by Derby in May 2015.

Nigel Clough was quick to reunite the two when he signed shortly before the Derby game in August 2016 where he made his comeback to professional football off the bench with both sets of fans giving him a deserved ovation.

Barker is a leader on and off the pitch one of the many qualities Clough admires about him.
