With over 200 senior goals to his name, including more than 100 in the Premier League, Darren brings a wealth of goalscoring experience to the Brewers having moved the short distance down the A38 on loan from Championship neighbours Derby County in the January transfer window after missing the first half of the season with a hamstring injury picked up in a pre-season friendly against Port Vale.
Darren has scored goals at all of his previous clubs, starting with his first club Ipswich Town where he scored more than fifty times for the Tractor Boys and earning himself a £2.5m move to Charlton Athletic. Another goal laden spell led to a big money move to Tottenham Hotspur whose investment proved to be a shrewd one as the goals continued to flow for Darren.
Sunderland paid an eight figure fee to take Darren to the Stadium Of Light in the summer of 2009 and two years on Wearside produced thirty-six goals in the red and white of the Black Cats.
Aston Villa were next to spend heftily to acquire Darren's services and a four year spell at Villa Park saw him regularly on the scoresheet as well as finding the net whilst out on loan at Fulham, Brighton and Derby.
The Rams were impressed enough to take Darren on a permanent deal when his contract at Villa ran out and he was a reliable scorer of goals for the Rams until injury kept him sidelined last summer.
Nigel Clough will be hoping that the goals continue to flow as they have everywhere else that Darren has played.
