An energetic midfielder with an eye for a goal, Matty became the first addition to the 2017/18 Brewers squad, signing a two-year deal with the Brewers following the expiration of his contract with League One side Rochdale.
Another to come through the Crewe Alexandra Academy, Matty was picked up by Stoke City in 2009 and made excellent progress through the ranks with the Potters.
Matty made the bench in the Premier League but left Stoke without making a first team appearance for the club. He did gain valuable first team experience in loan spells away from the Bet365 Stadium, Hereford United, Oldham Athletic, Bristol Rovers and Southend United all providing the opportunity to get games under his belt.
Having been released in the summer of 2013 Matty moved back to his native Manchester to link up with Rochdale where he discovered his eye for goalscoring eight times as Dale won promotion from League 2 in his first season at the club.
A reliable and influential member of the side at Spotland Matty enjoyed his best goalscoring season last term hitting double figures for the first time in his career alerting the Brewers to his ability to step up to the Championship.
His form for Rochdale has brought recognition from Northern Ireland side for whom he has made two appearances so far under Michael O'Neill and will be definitely be looking to add to his caps as a regular in the Championship.
