The former Bradford goalkeeper is excited at the prospect of a promising League Two campaign
Burton’s new recruit Jon McLaughlin is delighted to finally have his future settled.
After training with his former club Bradford over the summer, the ex-Harrogate Town and Harrogate Railway goalkeeper can finally target a number one shirt after signing a one-year deal this afternoon.
“I’m really excited,” said McLaughlin.
“It’s a great feeling to have made the move and get a fresh challenge.
“It was sold to me by the manager. He seems like a really good guy and people I’ve spoken to, who have worked with him or with the club have great things to say about it.”
McLaughlin made 125 appearances for the Bantams over a six year spell. However, despite dropping a division, he believes the move is beneficial for himself and the club.
“I don’t see it as a drop in standard nor a backwards step, as if it was I wouldn’t have made it.
“Everything I’ve heard about the football club is positive and during my time in League One I have always liked the atmosphere and the way the fans were with the team.”
McLaughlin will have to battle it out with Dean Lyness if he wants to make that goalkeeping spot his own. And the man, who was on the bench for the League Cup final two seasons ago, knows the Pirelli Stadium can become a home.
“You can see from my career that I get settled and if it’s a good club, the right fit for me then that’s something I’d like to stay and progress with the football club.
“I did that at Bradford and we made good progress together, so I don’t see a reason, why I can’t do that here.”
The Scottish-born goalkeeper will make his debut this evening against Mickleover and it’s a fixture he can’t wait to start.
“They’ll always be nerves.
“But I’m really confident in my own ability and I’m sure I’ll give everything I can to be a valuable member to the club and the team.
