ROWETT: THE FANS WERE FANTASTIC

30 August 2014

Boss salutes fans after Brewers win 2-1 at Mansfield

Brewers boss Gary Rowett paid tribute to the travelling Burton fans who supported the team throughout today's 2-1 win. The Brewers had a two goal lead courtesy of Alex MacDonald and Callum McFadzean, but a Matt Rhead reply and late Robbie Weir sending off made the last 10 minutes extremely difficult.

However, Rowett believes it was the support the players got from the travelling 508 that helped them get over the line and end the day top of League Two.

"They were fantastic," he said after the match exclusively to Brewers Player.

"The support we received was terrific, especially as it was hard fought game against a team that was very direct.

"I felt we coped with it really well, particulary in the second half when we came under pressure and the fans are one of main reasons we did that."

Rowett felt that despite one or two circumstances decisions going against side, he believes Mansfield's late goal made the game extremely difficult.

"I just felt it was a difficult game to referee, but by letting one of two things go and not dealing with them it spiralled into a fight.

"We were disappointed with the first goal of Mansfield and we should have won by a two goal margin.

"It was a straight ball and i've spoken to the two centre-halts about being disappointed with the goal. We've got to be better than that and as this is the first phase of the season we've been planning for they've now got three days off to recover."

There's no argument that the players deserve a mini break. The Brewers are top of the league and remain unbeaten this season and Rowett is delighted with his the sides start.

"We've had seven games in 21 days with one a Championship team and another a Premier League team and we stand here with 6 wins and a draw.

"I've got to be immensely proud of the start we've made, they're a great bunch and they thoroughly deserve to be top of the league.

"However it's just a start and we won't get carried away."
