BRAYFORD PLEASED WITH BREWERS RESPONSE

10 April 2017

JOHN Brayford has praised the way that the Brewers responded to an early setback to earn a valuable point against Aston Villa at the Pirelli Stadium.

Brayford and his teammates found themselves a goal down in the opening minutes of the game when Jonathan Kodjia capitalised on a loose pass from Ben Turner to score his 19th Championship goal of the campaign.

However, Burton refused to be beaten and created a number of chances before Lloyd Dyer scored a stunning volley in the second-half to draw Nigel Clough’s side level.

Brayford was pleased with the resiliency showed by the Brewers after going behind, and even feels that the hosts could have gone on to win the game.

“You never want to go a goal down and especially against the nature of some of these teams," he said.

"But we responded in a manner that was a credit to everybody associated with the football team.

“With the amount of pressure they were under in the second half, maybe we could have nicked a second."

Brayford also believes that the trust that Nigel Clough has in his players is a major positive for the team.

“He trusts the lads more than anything. He knows they won't let him down. It's not just the 11 who go out but the lads who came on. Everybody knows their role within the team and the squad.”

The Brewers are now five points clear of the relegation zone with just five games left to play. They now go into a crucial bank-holiday weekend, where Burton will play both Ipswich Town and Birmingham City in the space of four days.
