BREWERS MAKE THIRD JANUARY SIGNING

6 January 2017

BURTON Albion have signed 27-year-old Luke Murphy from Leeds United on loan until the end of the season.

The midfield player started his career at Crewe Alexandra before making his move to Leeds United in June 2013 where he’s gone on to make over 100 appearances for the West Yorkshire club.

Luke made 37 appearances in the Sky Bet Championship last season so he has plenty of experience in this division.

Murphy will be eligible to play in tomorrow’s Emirates FA Cup tie against Watford at Vicarage Road and will wear the squad number 30.

On his move, Luke Murphy said: “As soon as I found out there was a chance of coming here I really wanted to make it happen.

“It’s a very ambitious club and they’ve proved that in the last few years with the promotions. With the manager that’s here I’ve always wanted to try and play for him and hopefully I can help the team do well and finish the season good.”

Brewers boss Nigel Clough said: “Luke is another experienced Championship player to add to our squad. He’s a midfielder that played 38 times for Leeds last season, and he’s only 27 years old.

“He has a lot of experience so we hope he will bring that to the team, he’s a good addition for us.”
