FORMER Burton Albion goalkeeper Dan Robinson will return to the club to take up the role of Academy manager.

Robinson played schoolboy football with Derby County and joined the Brewers in 2001 during Nigel Clough’s first spell as manager.

He left the Brewers in 2005 and has spent the last decade playing and coaching in New Zealand.

He is currently assistant coach of the New Zealand women’s team.

Born and raised in Derby, the 34-year-old will return to the area to take up the Academy Manager role from September 19.

Brewers chairman Ben Robinson said: “We are delighted that Dan Robinson will be returning to Burton Albion.

“He already knows the club and our first team manager Nigel Clough and his experience in coaching in international football with the New Zealand Women’s team will be invaluable in helping develop our Academy.

“It’s an important role and we look forward to Dan taking up the post and helping move our Academy forward.

“We have recently undertaken a review and restructuring of the Academy in line with the club’s overall progress to the Championship and I would also like to thank all the Academy staff for their commitment and hard work during this process.”
Robinson is delighted to be returning to Burton Albion.

He said: “My time at Burton Albion as a player were four of my happiest footballing years. I made a lot of friends within the club and the community and I have closely followed the Brewers rise in English football from the other side of the world. A dream was that one day I could return to England with my family and be involved at the club in some way.

 "My experience in football at various levels as a player, coach and development officer working in the community space and also working at FIFA World Cups and two Olympic Games has given me a variety of tools to deliver in either youth development or high performance football. I have an enthusiasm, passion and energy that I will bring to the club.

 "The Academy is already in a great place. Local talent is developing, with players getting into the first team at Championship level.
