Queens Park Rangers manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink said he was pleased with his side’s desire, but that more quality was needed in their 1-1 draw with Burton Albion.
Jamie Ward opened his Brewers account by scoring from close range after a strong spell of pressure from Burton. Sebastian Polter then scored Rangers’ first goal from open play this season with a powerful drive past goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin.The two sides had already met once this year. They played out a 1-1 draw in pre season, after which Hasselbaink slammed his side for not being ready for the season ahead. However, there was no repeat of such criticism this time around.
Hasselbaink said after the game that he was pleased with the commitment of his players, but that some aspects of their game must improve, having been frustrated by a resilient Burton defence.
“There was no fault in the desire, there was no fault in the commitment, I think we did that very well,” he said.
“I think you have to give credit to Burton, they made it very difficult for us and it needed a little more concentration and quality from us to break them down.”
The result sees the Dutchman’s QPR in 16th place with a lunchtime derby away to Fulham next up for them. Burton now go on to host a Cardiff City side coming off the back of a 2-0 loss at home to Derby County. The Brewers are currently in 18th place on 10 points, two points clear of the relegation zone.
