JACKSON Irvine was rated 50-50 mid-week as to whether he would face Cardiff City, but was deemed not fit on the morning of the game which means he’s missed Burton Albion’s last three games.
One positive for Nigel Clough is that he is expecting his top goal scorer and club record signing to be back out on the pitch for Saturday’s trip to Queens Park Rangers in the Sky Bet Championship.The manager said: “He’s a good player, he gets goals and he makes goals. We just hope he is (fit).
“He was hoping to train on Friday but he didn’t make it so straight away it’s too much of a risk to play him on the Saturday but he’s got a clear week now and we’re hoping to get him out there at QPR.”
The Brewers conceded another late goal which saw them narrowly lose 1-0 to Cardiff City in Wales on Saturday, a defeat in which Nigel Clough says the Brewers didn’t deserve: “With 20 games to go we’ve been to places like Elland Road and Villa Park and played well but lost the game so I think there’s a time when you have to say lets just be nice and solid and organised, just like most teams seem to be then we might nick one ourselves.
“It’s not running for us to say the least at the moment, we’re on the back of another defeat which we didn’t think we deserved.”
And the Brewers boss admits he’s seen the late goals occur too often.
He said: “We have seen it too often, conceding goals late in the first half or late in the game but once again effort and everything else was good (vs Cardiff) but I don’t want to turn into a team that’s just solid and doesn’t play, that’s another thing we said to the lads at half time.
“We did very well to stop Cardiff against the threat that they have.”
