'TIME TO MAKE OUR OWN LUCK' - SAYS AKINS

16 January 2017

LUCAS Akins believes that Burton Albion have to remain positive if they are to survive in the Championship, but must start taking matters into their own hands.

The Brewers suffered a blow to their survival hopes with a 2-0 defeat to Wigan Athletic at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday and Akins admits that form has not been ideal, but that the team do have the mental strength to remain in the division.

“Part and parcel of football is you concede goals, it is how you deal with them," he said. "We just have to deal with it better.

“It’s not the end of the world. We have got to keep our heads up. When you are in a bit of a bad spell, heads might drop but we have just got to be stronger and just go out there and keep doing what we have been doing because, if we do, then things will eventually drop for us.

“It is time for us now to start making our own luck. We can’t keep cursing bad luck because I am a firm believer that you get what you deserve in the end,  so we have just got to keep going and hopefully the fans will keep behind us as well.”

Defeat for Blackburn Rovers meant that the Brewers remain a point above the drop zone with 20 games still to play in the Championship.

Nigel Clough’s men travel to Neil Warnock’s Cardiff on Saturday hoping to increase the gap between themselves and the bottom three.
