YOUNG BREWERS FALL TO THIRD SUCCESSIVE DEFEAT

6 March 2017

BURTON Albion’s under 18 side suffered their third Youth Alliance defeat in a row as Chesterfield ran out 3-2 winners on Saturday.

The young Brewers were 2-0 down at half-time and fell further behind just after the break, as things began to look bleak for the youngsters. However, a resurgent performance saw Burton score twice and put Chesterfield under pressure heading into the latter parts of the game.

The Brewers were unable to complete, what would have been, an impressive comeback, as Chesterfield held-on. Rose admitted that the team’s performance was not perfect, but they can be pleased with the desire they showed in the second half.

“It was a frantic game,” He said.

“We were 2-0 down at half-time and then conceded a third early on in the second-half.

“We played some okay football. We created and missed quite a few chances to score goals, but we didn’t defend well and we found ourselves 3-0 down early in the game.

“Our reaction was really strong, so the game finished 3-2. We had chances to equalise and to go on and win the game. From a development point-of-view, we have had an opportunity to show a bit of character, to fight back and try to get a point out of the game, we haven’t managed to do it but there was a lot of improvement in the second-half, in comparison to the first. We involved 5 u16s today and we are encouraged by their performance against an older opposition overall.”

All 9 of next season's first year scholars have played a big part in the side over the course of the season to date. The experience that they are getting will be invaluable to their future success.”

The young Brewers are now seven points off the top two in the league with six games remaining.
